Residents attend a recent meeting on a proposal to create a new city in South Fulton County.

Residents can get information on the proposed City of South Fulton in Fairburn tonight.

A meeting on the proposed new city will be held at 7 p.m. at Open Word Christian Ministries, 6230 Highway 92. It’s the latest in a series of community meetings about a proposal to create a new city out of unincorporated Fulton County, which stretches from Atlanta to Chattahoochee Hills and from College Park to the Douglas County line. The area includes more than 90,000 people and covers 105 square miles.

In 2015 State Rep. Roger Bruce, D-Atlanta, and Sen. Donzella James, D-Atlanta, plan to introduce legislation that would allow South Fulton residents to vote on cityhood sometime next year. A similar bill passed the House of Representatives earlier this year but died in the Senate.
