Winter storm: Risk of black ice prompts delays, closings

While most of metro Atlanta dodged an icy bullet Monday morning, Tuesday morning could be a different story, as falling temperatures are expected to cause icy patches on area bridges and overpasses.

The National Weather Service just before 1:30 p.m. Monday released a special statement warning of a risk of black ice on roadways Tuesday morning along and north of a line from Lagrange to Athens, prompting Gov. Nathan Deal to push back the opening of state agencies in metro Atlanta to 10 a.m. Tuesday. Agencies in counties in the northern part of the state were asked to observe an 11 a.m. opening.
