The wintry blast brought Georgia’s statehouse to an icy standstill, as lawmakers and lobbyists rushed home after squeezing in another day of the legislative session.
Lawmakers in the House approved a proposal to legalize the possession of medical marijuana, while a prominent Senate Republican renewed his fight for “religious liberty” legislation. But a slew of committee meetings were canceled and business was largely wrapped up by around noon, just as most state workers were leaving for the day on orders from Gov. Nathan Deal.
A few hours later, the statehouse was eerily empty. The political crowd won’t be gone for long, though, as a busy day including a key vote on Georgia’s $21.8 billion budget looms tomorrow.
