Snow in metro Atlanta: Temps begin climbing above freezing as precipitation moves closer

Temperatures were a degree or two on either side of the freezing mark across metro Atlanta at 10 a.m. as the leading edge of the approaching winter storm continued to move through Alabama.

Most of the precipitation was falling as rain in Alabama, but had changed over to a wintry mix across Mississippi.

Metro Atlanta temperatures at 10 a.m. ranged from 31 degrees in Dunwoody, Dallas and Cartersville, 32 in Alpharetta and 33 in Marietta and Chamblee to 34 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and 35 in Peachtree City. In the mountains, it was 28 in Blue Ridge and 29 in Blairsville.

Metro Atlantans were bracing Wednesday morning for an afternoon winter storm that forecasters said could deliver dump several inches of snow across parts of the area. A winter storm warning goes into effect at 10 a.m. for 50 Georgia counties. Full story.
