Snow in metro Atlanta: Traffic moving smoothly on interstates, surface streets

Cobb Parkway was virtually free of congestion during the afternoon rush hour Wednesday.

Normally heavily congested this time of day, Cobb Parkway was virtually free of traffic Wednesday.

At 4 p.m. Wednesday, a commuter left downtown Atlanta heading north to Ga. 400, exiting on I-285 W then to I-75 N. That commuter reached the Marietta square within 30 minutes.

Typically that drive would take hours at this time of day. Judging by the light volume on metro Atlanta’s interstates and highways it’s clear commuters heeded official warnings to either leave work early or not come in at all.

Surface streets in Cobb were also free of congestion and, as of 4:30 p.m., free of ice. But by 4:45 p.m. the snow resumed, and this time it appeared to be sticking.
