Snow in metro Atlanta: Roads wet but not icy in DeKalb

Most roads in DeKalb County are clear of ice Thursday morning as temperatures stayed above freezing overnight. The storm only had a minor impact in DeKalb, with the worst of it hitting areas to the north, said county spokesman Burke Brennan. “It was slick and there was sleet, but there wasn’t a sheet of ice that we were expecting,” Brennan said. DeKalb schools remain closed Thursday, and county government offices are opening at 10 a.m. Wet weather did cause some damage. A plane overran a runway at DeKalb Peachtree Airport and got stuck in mud, a tree fell near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and several cars crashes were reported. County work crews were checking bridges and overpasses for ice early Thursday morning because they can freeze before roads. “We thought last night at 10 that we’d have some icy road conditions. It looks like it passed about a county and a half north of us,” Brennan said. “It should be business as usual when we open up at 10.”
