Shots fired at officer: Search for suspect continues in Gwinnett

Gwinnett police are looking for a robbery suspect who drew a silver semiautomatic handgun, fired at least one round toward an officer and escaped.

The officer was not injured, Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said in an emailed statement.

According to police, officers responded to a robbery call about 12:03 p.m. at the Ashford Jackson Creek Apartment Homes in the 2300 block of Sunrise Village Lane in Norcross.

“When the officer heard the sound of glass breaking on the side the building,” Pihera said, “he confronted the suspect attempting to run up a hill.”

The officer drew his weapon, but did not shoot. The suspect did shoot, but missed the officer.

The suspect is about 200 pounds and between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-1. He has short hair and was last seen wearing a dark Atlanta Braves baseball hat, a white shirt, a hoodie, blue jeans and boxers that were visible above the waistband of the jeans.

“The motive of the robbery is still unknown at this time,” Pihera said. “The victim and an uninvolved witness stayed on scene. We don’t know the relationship between the suspect and the victim.”
