Stone Mountain Park police were still out in force, but only as a precautionary measure, police spokesman John Bankhead said Saturday night.
Many officers were present Saturday, along with reinforcements from other agencies, just in case of trouble dealing with the Confederate flag rally.
Bankhead said everything went smoothly, with the only trouble being with one loud counter protester who objected to the Confederate flag.
The man followed some of the flag enthusiasts on their hike up the mountain, trading insults, which almost led to a fight, Bankhead said.
Several undercover law-enforcement officers intervened although it took a minute for the police to establish their authority, Bankhead said.
“They told them who they were but he didn’t believe them,” Bankhead said. “Everything would have gone smoothly except for one counter protestor.
