Defendant flees DeKalb courtroom, misses out on not-guilty verdict

Saladin Ghani thought he could see the writing on the prison wall.

His two-day trial in DeKalb County was coming to an end last Thursday afternoon and he was sure he’d be convicted of stealing $7,000 from a neighbor and sent away for up to 20 years.

Panicked, he came up with an escape plan. He told his lawyer he needed a bathroom break, only Ghani was more interested in a break-out.

Police: Weather a factor in fatal Spaghetti Junction wreck

Authorities are blaming Wednesday’s rainy weather for an early morning wreck in DeKalb County that killed two people.

According to DeKalb police Major S.R. Fore, the wreck happened about 12:30 a.m. in Spaghetti Junction.

Fore said a tractor-trailer was exiting I-285 north onto I-85 north when the truck veered off the right side of the exit ramp and jackknifed. The truck traveled through the gore area and into the I-85 northbound travel

Police shooting of man calling 911 for help heads to DeKalb grand jury

On Tuesday, Delisa Davis will hear, for the first time, her brother’s dying words.

They were captured on a 911 call made by Kevin Davis after his girlfriend had been stabbed, along with the fatal gunshots that killed him, fired by a DeKalb police officer.

“I’m not prepared to hear this call but I’m going to be there to support my brother,” Delisa Davis told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday.
